IR spectra of trimethylmethanol and triphenylmethanol in a series of inert solvents and weak π-bases have been measured. The contour of the νs(OH) band was studiedquantitatively and described in terms of profile indices, spectral moments, correlation functions and correlation times. It has been found that the dominant relaxation pathway is vibrational dephasing facilitated by the formation of weak π-hydrogen bonding.
