The crystal structure and eletronic (absorption and emission) spectra of a new neodymium azide complex are presented. The structure is composed of ethylenediammonium cations and anionic polymeric network built up from azide anions and neodymium cations. The neodymium environment consists of nine nitrogen atoms. The absorption spectra show high intensity of the hypersensitive4I9/2 ⇒4G5/2,2G7/2 transition. The Judd-Ofelt analysis is presented.
