The title compound, (C19H18P)2[ReCl6], consists of alternating cationic and anionic layers. Unlike some related materials, the ReIV cations (Re site symmetry ) of the hexachlororhenate(IV) anions do not order magnetically. Some of the Cl atoms of the anion are disordered over two positions related by rotation with respect to a Cl-Re-Cl axis, which can be correlated with C-HCl interactions.
