Potentiometric and spectroscopic (UV–VIS, EPR) methods were used to establish the co-ordination equilibria in Cu2+-impromidine solutions. Impromidine, a strong H2 histamine agonist, was found to be an effective ligand co-ordinating to the Cu2+ ion via two imidazole rings with the formation of a 15-membered macrochelate. CuL and CuL2 are the major complexes formed, with a bis-complex dominating at physiological pH.
