The temperature dependencies of the 1H spin-lattice relaxation times (T1z,T1p), and the second moment M2 of proton NMR absorption were measured for solid (CH3 NH3)5 Bi2Cl11 and its partially deuterated analogs between 100 and 350 K. The results show that the methylammonium cations undergo rapid overall rotation in the room temperature phase, and rotations around the C3 axis in the low temperature phase. The activation energies associated with those motions were obtained using a BPP model. The NMR results relating to the three phases of these compounds are discussed and compared with other studies.
