Three standard procedures for the numerical determination of vibrational correlation times from experimental bandshapes are compared. The methods are exemplified on simulated curves, in particular for the Cauchy-Gauss product function and for the Voigt profile. Literature data as well as results obtained in our laboratory for numerous vibrational bands confirm the predicted pattern.
