Streszczenie

Peptides containing the RGD (Arg–Gly–Asp) motif and their molecular mimetics bind integrin receptors with high affinity and inhibit cell adhesion by competing with the integrins/matrix inter-action leading to anti-inflammatory, anticoagulant, antimetastatic, and antiangiogenic effects. RGD peptides are also involved in bacterial pathogen invasion, tumor and endothelial cell-targeting via the integrin receptors as well as in noninvasive tumor imag-ing, targeting, and radiation treatment. This review presents various functions of RGD peptides and perspectives of their application as potential drugs.
