2,5-Diaminoterephthalates with N-biphenylyl, N-terphenylyl and N-quaterphenylyl moieties possess fluorescence properties and have been prepared in two steps by oxidative aminolysis of succinyl succinates with aniline derivatives followed by Suzuki cross-coupling reactions.The reaction of succinyl succinates with aniline, iodoaniline and iodobiphenylamine yielded 2,5-bis(arylamino)terephthalates. Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of the iodo-functionalized compounds with phenyl- and biphenylylboronic acids gave 2,5-diaminoterephthalates with N-biphenylyl, N-terphenylyl and N-quaterphenylyl substituents. Some of the products show interesting fluorescence behaviour.
