New one- and two-dimensional rhodium-tin polynuclear complexes, synthesis, properties and structural characterization.

Reactions of [Sn(CH2CH2CN)4] and [Sn2(CH2CH2CN)6] with [Rh2Cl2(CO)4] give pentanuclear complex [Sn{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)2}4] · CH2Cl2 (1) and hexanuclear compound [Sn2{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)2}4(CH2CH2CN)2] · CHCl3 (2). In acetone solution complex 2 slowly decomposes giving [Rh6(CO)16] (3). X-ray structures of the compounds have been determined. In complexes 1 and 2 in the solid state square planar entities [NRhCl(CO)2] relatively strongly interact giving one-dimensional and two-dimensional compounds. In complex 2 the ditin moiety possesses an unexpected eclipsed conformation.New dendritic tin–rhodium complexes [Sn{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)2}4] · CH2Cl2 and [Sn2{CH2CH2CNRhCl(CO)2}4(CH2CH2CN)2] · CHCl3 have been synthesized and described. Owing to the interactions between the rhodium atoms, complexes in the solid state have one-dimensional and two-dimensional structure. Unexpectedly the ditin(III) moiety shows an eclipsed conformation. The latter compound in solutions decomposes giving [Rh6(CO)16].
