This work presents a selected part of the research activity conducted by the Luminescent Materials Group at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Wrocław, focusing on materials for luminescent thermometry. To this end, we chose a series of phosphors sharing the same garnet-type crystal structure to highlight the influence of other crucial material parameters in this field of study. In particular, we examine the role of the host lattice band-gap energy and phonon energy in controlling luminescence and its temperature dependence. Special attention is given to achieving a wide operating temperature range for such thermometric phosphors. We demonstrate that Ca3Sc2Si3O12:Pr can function as a thermometric phosphor over an exceptionally broad range of 80–1225 K, which represents a remarkable result in the field of luminescent materials research.
