Europium(II) diacetate hemihydrate, Eu(CH3COO)2·0.5H2O, contains a polymeric network built up from Eu2+ cations, acetate anions, and water molecules. There are two symmetry independent, eight-coordinate Eu2+ ions, each with different coordination mode. The Eu–O distances are larger than in Eu(III) compounds, and resemble those reported earlier for europium(II) acetates.
