The structure of morpholinium 2,4-dinitrophenolate has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystals are monoclinic, space group , with a = 9.902(2), b = 7.174(2), and β = 99.89°; Z = 4; final R = 0.034 for 1203 independent reflections. The morpholinium and 2,4-dinitrophenolate moieties are linked by hydrogen bonds N(3)+H(4)⋯O(1)− of 2.723(3) Å and N(3)+H(5)⋯O(1)− of 2.752(3) Å. The ionic character of the hydrogen bond was confirmed by IR and UV spectra. Spectral characteristics of the complex are compared with related properties of 2,4-dinitrophenolates of dimethyloamine, pyrrolidine and tetramethylammonium 2,4-dinitrophenolate.
