The reactions of HCO2Me and ClCO2Me with selected rhodium, iridium and palladium compounds have been investigated. The reactions formed [Rh(HCO2)-(CO)2]2, [Rh(HCO2)(cod)]2, [Rh(Cl)(CO2Me)(H)(PMe3)3], [Rh(cp)(CO2Me)(Cl)(PMe3)2], [Pd(CO2Me)(Cl)(PCy32], [Ir(H)2(PMe3)4]+ (HCO2)−, and [Rh(μ-CO)(PMe3)3]2. The reactions involving HCO2Me provide a new method of synthesizing of the dimeric formate complexes.
